I used to fear dogs - their barking, their licking. I would practically run upon seeing one and could never understand why those who owns one treats their dog so preciously, because a dog, is a dog to me, then. It wasn't until our plans of me residing in the States crystalised, that Xiaoye kept throwing the idea of getting a pup when I'm here.
Everything was nicely planned; from first taking care of a friend's dog which served as a "trial period" for me and decide if I am really comfortable of owning one myself; to reading books on getting/ taking care of puppies; watching Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer almost everyday; searching Craigslist for puppy postings; visiting pets adoption centre; hopping around pet's owners' place to see the litter; and finally got down to deciding which puppy to get.... here comes Princess Cookie! (:
Cookie with her sister!
Cookie's Mummy is covered with pretty golden brown fur.
The real deal started on the day (well, it's the very minute!) we brought Cookie home - dealing with her separation anxiety, getting all the necessities, potty-train her, bringing her for jabs. Boy, it was a tough time. I still remembered those nights where we woke up every few hours to bring her to pee (puppies have tiny bladder and they have to pee every 3-4 hours) and a lot of times, cleaning up her pee/poo everywhere in the kitchen.
Brought her straight to Pet Smart and she's was so afraid that she peed in the trolley.
Bathing time becos' she's so so dirty.
Looking pretty & clean after her bath!
Her furs are so black when she's little, now they are slowly fading, hopefully to the beautiful shade like her mummy!
So tiny & cute, I missed mini Cookie!
Now, she's getting so much better. Potty-trained, knows the basic commands like sit, paw, down, stand, cage and she obediently (& eagerly) finishes her food every single time we fed her. And oh, she can play fetch well too! Training her wasn't an easy feat. We read up online, seek opinions from friends and dog trainers and painstakingly repeat it over and over again till she got it.
Cookie just reached her 5 months few days ago and she has grown so much! She never failed to get attention from passers-by whenever we are out and stunts she do really cracks people up. Just look at her 1001 sleeping poses. So unglam.
So exposed!!
And she goes from within the couch, to almost out of it. Haha :D
Her first time down the stairs, fearing each step. Now? She speeds up & down.
Out at the park!
Cookie's loving it!
You shy little thing.
Too tired from the run and she's all flat on the ground like a carpet.
Training in progress.
Like a lady.
Aha! Caught ya dozing off!
Her first time to the vet.
Falling asleep on Daddy's chair.
Hiding in the coffee table while watching TV!
Out & about to North Bark dog park, a happy place!
Her big pals.
After her first grooming session, sho pwetty!
Hm, who's at the door?
Penny for your thought?
Happy that Snowy is staying over for 2 weeks!
I'm getting so attached to her and she's really just like my baby. I sound a little insane but just like how a mother wants the best for her kid and gets worried if the kid fall sick, I feel the same for Cookie too. She gets naughty (and smelly) but I never regretted getting her back then and I can't wait for my family & friends to meet Cookie next year!
